Sila Shaman is a composer and pianist whose work spans multiple genres, from film/TV to theater, dance, jazz, and experimental music. Described as "adroit tinkering and re-shaping of improvised source material into full fledged, highly polished works of art," Shaman's score for the documentary Sisters in Freedom won 2019 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards for Musical Composition and Audio. Her jazz recordings on SteepleChase and Louie Records, such as A New Abode (NPR album-of-the-week) and Brief West Coast Tour (All About Jazz top 2020 release), have been highly acclaimed. Recent projects include the film Transmission, Playing Anne Frank podcast series, and Choice Words with Samantha Bee podcast theme music. Shaman is originally from Turkey and currently resides in New York City.
