Born to a Mexican literature teacher and an Italian orchestra director, Alessandro was raised in seven countries, speaking four languages fluently. He fenced professionally, part of the Olympic Team, and traveled extensively.

He earned a BA in film directing from the University of Bologna, then worked directing commercials in France and Mexico before moving to Los Angeles. There, he earned an MFA in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute Conservatory.
